Copying the Great Masters is a great way for an artist to find the skills and confidence to develop his own work. While some may call it 'cheating', it is no more cheating than if a novice writer reads a great piece of literature, or a science student repeats a famous experiment. Painting these reproductions in around 2002 helped Steve progress rapidly, and the experience advanced his technique in his automotive art too.
